My cat never coughed til we switched to clumping litter 2 weeks ago. Try crappy non clumping clay or wheat or newspaper and see if it helps. I'm going back to clay or sweatscoop

My cat does this. I didn't even know what it was until about five-ten minutes ago. He is an orange tabby and does exactly like your cat is doing, I'd say a bit less than once a week [once every 2 weeks-ish? It really depends, sometimes he goes months without doing it and others it's like once every few days, it's pretty sporadic] How serious is this? I have asthma too but I'm sure it's different for pets.

My cat has asthma also and does the same thing. When it gets bad I have to give her steroids for a few weeks them she's good for a few months.

@hapkido4 I am worried my cat might have asthma but I only feed him minced beef, chicken or pilchards- no pet food, he is on a fresh diet (all the meat is cooked). I don't know why he coughs like this.

@hapkido4 wet food is good for cats to have, if they have just dry food, it can lead to higher PH levels in their PEE, and then they can get UTI's. Its good to give them a little wet and a little dry.

I STOP FEEDING MY CAT THE CAN CAT FOOD, PURINA....SHE NEVER HAD IT AGAIN...for my cat it was the food. i always had her on thedry food diet, no problem..the minute i give her a can food treat...she goes through the coughing and breathing problems..NO MORE CAN FOOD FOR HER AND SHE IS DOING 100% BETTER. AND TO THINK I PAID THE VET ALMOST $1800.OO FOR him to tell me she has asthma

I work with a lady who is disabled. Her cat also has feline asthma. The vet has her on prednazone (nut sure spelling) she is loosing weight dosn't help the cough .
just for clarification i take freddy to the vet on a regular basis. we have brought up the coughing to the vet and she said there isnt anything serious about it. he is fed well and taken care of very well and not abused. he shows some signs of a slight heart murmur but my other cat who does not have a heart condition has had episodes similar to this type of coughing also. so i dont think heart problems are linked to this behavior.
