This video documents in high speed the process of illustrating my poster entitled "A Ride Through Town" based on the film Mon Oncle. Originally a contribution to www.silverscreensociety.com and available for sale on http://www.familytreedesign.net

Music by Franck Barcellini from the film "Mon Oncle".

  • I loved watching this! Is there a possibility that you shared that 'dirty' brush you used? Cheers!

    GREAT poster!!

  • @Ike3d I used the Nagel Series brushes on this (chalk, charcoal, and graphite.. I think). I modified them slightly to accomodate working in high resolution... although they seem to crash my copy of Photoshop CS3 quite frequently

  • The poster looks great, and really captures the late 50's feel. I was wondering, what are the fonts that are used in this video, especially for "presents:" and for the credits?

  • @Tollundmand Hefty and Gotham

  • Very refreshing

    Just one comment

Monsieur Tati (in the movie) is riding a Solex and not a bicycle. This is visible on the original picture. A Solex was basically a front wheel driven bicycle. A small piston engine was located above the front wheel. The engine would be lowered onto the wheel tire using a lever and make contact with it via a abrasive cylinder. Simple, very romantic and very french but not very safe.

    Still remarkable work. Love it

  • @JPsemery Yes I know it is technically incorrect, compared to the film. But I didn't think it would translate well in a simple drawing. I think if it was included, your comment would be replaced by someone asking "What is that big weird thing on top of the front wheel?" :)

  • Thanks so much for sharing. This is just a lovely piece!

  • @alexfamilytree great! Thanks a lot! Brilliant poster, I shared this video with all my colleagues.

  • Very nice! What I love is that there don't seem to be any particularly unique tricks or techniques involved here - just your basic marquee tool and brush. What we get to watch is pure artistic skill. Thanks for sharing!

  • super cool. Gotta slow it down or watch a hundred times. So much to learn.

  • @alexfamilytree. I was just being picky. Doesn't help I grew up surrounded by these contraptions.
