How to Route a Click Track and Loop for a Worship Band

Ah! you would know exactly how to help me out.

My band has backing tracks and would like to start playing venues and what not. How could we go about accomplishing this? We have Pro tools, abelton, reason ect. So we can pan click to left and have the samples and backing tracks play on the right. Since set up time is a factor we were wondering if we could just have our own mixer with everything set up prior to showtime. I just never tried any of this..i'm pretty lost

@infoxicate There are two ways to set this up.

INEXPENSIVE (MONO): Dump Abelton, Reason, files to MP3 for an iPod. Use a RadioCrap splitter/amp (1/8 stereo to 1/4 L & R mono cable). Run the 1/4 left (tip) to your IEM (in-ear-monitor system) for band. Run the 1/4 right (ring) to house system.

EXPENSIVE (STEREO): Use a laptop w/ an audio interface (PreSonus Firebox or Digi OO2 or similar). Route click to output 1 for IEM, output 2 & 3 for stereo L/R house loop audio.

@bryankeithnelson Thank you very much for the speedy reply. This info isn't anywhere on the net. Awesome NO BS explanation. Both of those options sound very do-able and are well within our ability. We could use a laptop and our Profire 2626 and route the click like you explained. Having our DAW open onstage is unavoidable if we go with this method correct? This might be the only reason we would use an ipod. ...to avoid pro tools errors.

@infoxicate Running straight from DAW depends on how stable/speedy your computer is. The more stable path is playing MP3 from iTunes (or similar). Easy to setup a setlist, it's stable, and change order.

@infoxicate Suggestion: create "spacer" tracks between sets/songs where you know you will break...it allows time for the operator to decide if you need to pause or simply click "forward" to the next song. A vocal cue on the spacer track that says "pause click track here" to alert/remind the operator/band is helpful so they don't inadvertently launch the next song.
