Here is part 1 of the Dove Awards ceremony from 1989. The show was over 3 hours long and they rotated hosts. Rich co-hosted the ceremony for nearly an hour. "Awesome God' was nominated that year but lost to "His Eyes" by Steven Curtis Chapman, which is performed live during this show.

  • Nothing against Steven Curtis Chapman, but Awesome God should have been a shoe-in for song of the year. I wanted to cry at 1:44:00 when they decided not to give Rich the Dove Award. He seemed so excited to be nominated, and it would have meant so much to him to receive that award. Rich was never in it for the recognition, but he should have been recognized for Awesome God. That was not only the song of the year, but the song of the decade for both the 80s and 90s.

  • @reidthornton Hey Reid! Long time no type :-) Agreed 100%. "His Eyes" is a beautiful song but "Awesome God" is one of those songs that comes around once in a lifetime. I've always been amazed that it didn't win. And the sad thing is that Steven Curtis Chapman has 50+ Doves under his belt and Rich never received a single one of them during his lifetime. It would have been nice for him to have seen that recognition.

  • @theentrtnr That just means that a greater reward was in reserve in heaven. That is the greatest recognition of them all.

  • @morethanimusic Very true. I only mean that it is ashame that his peers in the music industry didn't recognize him until after he passed away. Sadly, we tend to do that in life. We take what we have for granted until its gone... but yes, Rich's legacy is far greater than any little golden statue.

  • Steven looks adorable in this video. I love the song" His Eyes".

  • Who is singing "Love Will be Our Home" at the very beginning???? I've only heard the Sandi Patty version....and honestly hers is much better.

  • Thanks for uploading this! It's great to see now popular CCM artists in their early years (Steven Curtis Chapman, here, for example), as well as other greats like Amy and Sandi.

  • kinda boring from the last row. Ever hear of zoom in 89 ? lol
