@GODhimself37 I've heard that idea before and I don't buy it. The puritans settlers were from the South of England, where most of the ports were, and they spoke, and many continue to speak, like pirates, as in 'ooaaar me hearties'. So some American linguist finds out that most Southern English people used to pronounce their 'r's and concludes that they used to speak like Americans because Americans pronounce their 'r's. But that pirate accent is way different to the modern US accent

@macacamaca The modern english/scottish accent is actually very recent. To say the "American Standard" is shit is saying the way your ancestors talked was shit.
