We found this Killdeer chick at Boomer Lake in Stillwater. It was with a group of three adult birds, who all played decoy while we examined it. It has some tail feathers, so it it at least a week and a half old.

  • The parents took it back willingly. I have handled three killdeer chicks in my life now, and they always take their chicks back. As long as the parents can see their chick they won't leave.

  • great video! I've caught a chick before. If adults are playing decoy and calling loudly is there nessacarily a nest nearby?

  • yeah i took care of one that the mother got hit by a ass hole of a teen ager and a month ago rescued and hatched a baby killdeer

  • i always enjoy that broken wing decoy reaction from the adults. they think they are so smart!

ps is it okay to handle the chick?
