They just wanted to be really funny in every way they could. They even got a British writer, Barry Took to join the team. All these people ware so skilled and quick witted.

Everything about that show was great.
The hosts, the writers, the talent. It went places that no other show at that time dared to go!

god, i wish this show was still on the air! they used to show repeats of laugh-in on the trio channel before the channel was taken off the air.... i miss that. this show is pure comedy gold.
