I was fortunate enough to get an invite from the guys in The Low Anthem to do a "off the cuff" single camera/tripod shoot of their performance at the House of Blues in Houston on 10.27.09. It was a challenging shoot for several reasons: 1 - We were only allowed a single camera/tripod (House of Blues protocol; they are somewhat the legal "Stasi" in regards to such things and in fact have a house rule of "no cameras" ... but thanks to the extra ordinary efforts of a couple guys in the band, I got in) ... 2 - I had to shoot from the same "cage" as the sound guy, at the back of the room and behind the crowd of obscenely tall attendees ... 3 - My much loved Canon HV30 decided, that night and all, to start flaking ... dropping audio, randomly from my externally mounted Audio Technica mic. Anyway, I managed to plumb this one gem of a song from the other trashed tracks ... and so I consider the night a success. Also ... 4 - I was limited to a camera mounted microphone in a room that was already sort of "splashy"/"echo'y" ... not to mention the jabbering yuppy bar flies. ;-)
And I just have to say ... what with Ben stealing the show and all ..
First?: Jeff is a bad ass on bass.
Second?: Josie for president. (sigh).
