My Dad passed away, peacefully and after a short illness, on the 20th of November 2011. He was 92 years old. This complilation wasn't originally intended as an elegy, but now it has become one. He was very loved and all of his family will miss him terribly. In his last days he did manage to see the video and enjoyed it.
The original video description is below:-
This is a compilation of clips of my Dad with a selection of songs he sang with his late singing-partner Tommy Rowan. They also feature an excellent guitar-accompaniment from their old compadre, Jimmy Jones. Songs are 'South of the Border', 'Blue Spanish Eyes', 'Strolling' and 'Via con Dios'. They were recorded at my brother Vincent's house in Jarrow, sometime in the 80s I think, possibly on an old tape-recorder with built-in mic. Nevertheless, I managed to put the old cassette on my PC and with a little tweaking the quality is really still pretty good.
It makes me think how good those two would have sounded if only I could have recorded them with todays mics and digital technology! My Dad is now 92 and I hope this will be a nice reminder for him.
@floyd3592 Thanks Aidan for your kind words.
