Sorry it is an F#major! you were right! but follow the rest of my advice and you'll be fine =)

instead of an F# it's an F#m. Loose the middle finger. Also, it should be the index finger coming off and on so the top E string is barred then unbarred keeping the other two finger that are on the a and d strings secure at all times during the verse.... Also, at the chorus it goes B to A then to F#m then B to a D then back to F#m. Hope this helps!
