Yep this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. The government no wants to tax us for drinking soda...yep as if a cigarette tax was not enough. And its because they think we are too fat...

I do agree taxes on soda is going way to far but cigarettes I completely understand. I wish more people would quit and a tax on them would help people quit would help "in theory". I'm sick of walk back from my college and EVERY 5 ft I come across some one smoking.

I personally do not have a problem with a tax on sugared soda (which is what the proposed tax is for). Since I drink diet soda I wouldnt have a problem with it. Alot of people simply do not realize how nay calories you are getting just from soda, or other sugared drinks. For the young children of these times it would help the most because the childhood obesity rate is through the roof. Now I understand some people have disorders that cause it but thats a small percentage of the over all number.

Thats actually a good question, would diet soda get taxed too? I hear some people say theres some bad stuff in it, but I donot really know a whole lot about diet soda though...

Pfft. As if. Obesity has nothing to do with it. They just wanna tax ya. Sierra Club wanted to tax video games a short while back, remember?

As for marijuana, shit, if they wanted to tax that and make it legal, I'd pay it. :P But that will never happen cause the liquor industry has too tight a strangle hold on the system. They will NEVER let weed be legalized. It would absolutely DECIMATE their profits.

@KripDrip Of course alot of things have sales tax, the proposed tax was in addition to that kinda in the same vein as cigarettes. Although at this point since there has been little talk about this since last year I doubt anything is going to happen. The whole Idea of a soda tax or even junk food tax was to make the items more expensive to make Americans want them less thus lowering the obesity rare. I honestly could never see that happen because we are a fat nation and no one cares to change it.
