July 27, 2010: Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation authored by Senator Jim Webb and Rep. Bill Delahunt that creates a blue-ribbon, bipartisan commission charged with undertaking a top-to-bottom review of the nation's criminal justice system. The commission will be responsible for recommending ways to prevent, deter and reduce crime and violence in the future while improving the cost effectiveness of the country's current programs.
If this commission is going to do its work properly, we will be able to kiss the US War on Drugs goodbye. Well, one can hope at least.

This is a monumental achievement for our country. Right now we keep 1 in every 150 Americans locked in a cage. They are traded as stock commodities. Human beings are not property to be bought and sold. Privately owned prisons? There is something very wrong with our judicial system.
