This is from Bonanza (TV) season 9, episode 22 - the late Ben Cartwright. Several examples of the correct pronunciation of Nevada with the short 'a' sound. All you easterners and southerners who have been misled for decades by the establishment Eastern news media should pay attention. It is neh-VA-duh, not neh-VAH-duh. It is Or-uh-gun, not Ory-Gone. Don't be such dummies, it is not that hard to learn.
Sometimes Bonanza did have the evil villain from back East pronounce Nevada with the "ahh" sound. Let's assume that this was deliberate to mark him as an outsider.
Historically, however, I think that any use of the erroneous "ahh" sound in Nevada in the mid 1800s is probably not accurate.
I would guess that the East Coast invention of their mistaken pseudo-Spanish pronunciation is likely a lot more recent, perhaps only since World War II.
