Follow us on http://twitter.com/AllAboutAlberta Alberta starred in this film, directorial debut of Oscar nominated (for "The Fighter") David O. Russell, and won rave critical acclaim for her memorable performance as a depressed, deeply-disturbed mother who has an incestuous relationship with her son, played by Jeremy Davies. The film received the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award and multiple Independent Spirit Awards.
Reviews excerpts:
"Alberta Watson navigates this character with astonishing grace, making her simultaneously pathetic and sympathetic, a still-beautiful woman facing a mid-life crisis which she can only seem to resolve in destructive ways. It is only because Watson allows us to see Mrs. Aibelli's deep pain that actions which instinctively cause the audience to cringe also seem to make a kind of twisted sense. To use the comparison which has frequently been made between SPANKING THE MONKEY and THE GRADUATE, this is Mrs. Robinson the way she should have been played."
Scott Renshaw, Stanford University, Office of the General Counsel

"Also great in this film is the great acting from all involved, especially the two leads. Davies shows promise as a young actor, while Watson gives an Oscar worthy performance on par with that of Anne Bancroft in "The Graduate.""
A Film Review --Ted Prigge http://www.imdb.com/reviews/95/9527.html
"...Davies gives a poignant, emotive performance that tears at the heart. And Watson is magnificent; seductive and overwhelming without losing her character's human scale..." -- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
