I bet a bit of friction tape on the handle prior to the parawrap, would add so much more to the grip!
-
Wetting the paracord before wrapping will cause it to shrink and tighten when it dries.

@SurvivorGeekVideos thanks for your reply, I thought it won't be able to secure the haft because of the wrapping, so it's ok :)

nice tip for a handle but now you're not able to make a spear out of it, right ? is the grip really so bad that you are willing to lose some extra functionality with this ?

@komaaar Actually, this doesn't prevent you from making it into a spear. The haft goes inside the hollow handle, whereas the wrap is on the outside. While there is a ball of material at the top of the handle or a line of cord going up the inside, you can still insert a haft up to that point and secure it to the handle cord or with a nail if you have one.
And yes, the grip really is that bad, IMO. Even if it did lose some functionality, it would still be better than losing some fingers.

You cut saplings down? That's the first thing you did with this knife? What an asshole.

@badbrainz1980ify You mad, bro? ;\)
(In my defense, they were in my yard and needed to be removed anyways. It's not like I was running around razing a Nat'l Forest or something.)

im debating between the cold steel flight thrower and the bushman as a cheap and expendable survival knife
both are full tang but im leaning more towards the flight thrower as of right now
any opinions?

@dynastyflygon Weight and size are pretty close between the two. My impression is that SK-5 steel (Bushman) has better edge retention, and 1055 steel (True Flight thrower) is a bit tougher (which is saying a lot, because the Bushmans are really tough!). Plus, the thrower is twice as thick as the Bushman (5mm vs 2.5mm) so it's a rugged knife, but the thickness would affect the sharpening and cutting. I'm not sure how comfortable the thrower's handle is (I'm guessing not very). Hope this helps.
