well a forkball is harder to throw than a splitty...a split finger is thrown with alot of spin on it where as a forkball is supposed to have little to no spin.. Forkballs are essentially a fast knuckleball and because of the speed it has ,like dooz said, a level trajectory then suddenly drops off the table.. The grip for a forkball is buried deeper between the two fingers than a splitfinger usually.
3lement. A forkball is just another name for a Splitfinger fastball/splitter...as you can see there are many variations on the name of this pitch but yes, your forkball is essentially a splitfinger fastball that is actually, if thrown better than the guy in the video, should come in perfectly level then drop off the table. NO ARCH!!! take this advice from a splitfinger fastball pitcher himself =)
Someone please tell me the difference between a Forkball and a splitfinger fastball please. I want to figure this out. I've always used it as a forkball -(usually after a fast pitch, sort of like a straight down breaking pitch, to get the swinger to chase or get used to the speed of it before I through another fastball) -
So what i'm wondering is, this whole time was I really just throwing a slow splitfinger fastball?
why dont they pitch on the mount? the ball doesnt look the same coming from the same groung level. I belive you will have a better look on "how it breaks", "slides" when you throw down hill, from the pitching mount.
