The sound mixing is fairly good and the acting (including Robert Montgomery in a jaunty love interest role) rises above the occasionally flat material. Good special effects for 1930.

June Walker, who appeared rarely in films, is a pragmatic American who decides on a whim that she would make a good nurse; the tragic silent comedienne Marie Prevost is her wise-cracking best friend. Anita Page plays a naive student who seeks out nursing as a heavenly calling, but falls prey to shell shock and infatuation. Former silent comedienne Zasu Pitts and Helen Jerome Eddy, who worked steadily throughout the 1930s, provide additional color as two spinster friends from the Midwest who make a go of it in France. Look for Hedda Hopper - the infamous gossip columnist - during a time when she was still primarily acting, here as the matron in charge of the nurses.
