So at the end of the day, the guards are dismissed and perform an elaborate gun drill for the spectators. This is at the National Martyrs' Shrine in Taipei. I went and paid my respects by "san jugong" (three bows) to the shrine.

My great-grandfather was killed fighting Japanese in Manchuria in the National Revolutionary Army in 1931. His spirit is at rest with the rest of the soldiers who fought, bled, and died to establish, build, and defend the Republic of China from Mongols, Manchus, Marxists, and Maoists.
