Boney James, who can play more instruments than should be humanly possible, is one of the best Contemporary Jazz musicians around. He's pretty much owned the Billboard charts for years.
What we have here is a nice collection consisting of mostly traditional holiday tunes, played in a conventional manner with Boney carrying the melody very nicely. But there are also a few surprises thrown into the mix, including guest stars joining in on several tracks.
Although Christmas Present is largely an instrumental offering, Boney appears here with R&B vocalists Chante Moore, Angie Stone, and Anthony Hamilton. Moore does a beautifully breathy, slyly sexy Santa Baby, while Stone's Merry Christmas Baby is more uptempo and funkalicious. Hamilton does a bluesy and somewhat subdued (at least until the closing bars) turn on the gospel-imbued Silent Night, keeping Boney's smokin' sax at center stage. Trumpeter Rick Braun joins the fun on The First Noel (my favorite track off the album), providing some subtle interplay with Boney's sax.
It's not December 25th yet; however, I want to wish you all a paceful and joyous Christmas! Thank you for everything, my friends.
PS. I'd like to dedicate this song to Shariffe (aka SmoothJazzMood) who decided to close her channel a couple of weeks ago. Merry Christmas to you my friend! I hope I'll hear from you again soon.
His style is warm and elegant-thanks for sharing and happy holidays, Bill H. .

This is soooo beautiful, jazzy and brings tears to my eyes as Jesus is the reason for the season. What CD is this song on, please??? I must see if I can get a copy. I hope this is not the last Christmas we see in America. I pray for God's mercy on America. God bless you Robert. Shalom.
