I'm sorry but This wasn't a love story. They're 11, it's only a subplot, and Billy was straight. While Michael had a crush on Billy, it was only mutually platonic. The point of the subplot was Billy wasn't gay, illustrating the bittersweet reality of gay first crushes. This was not a love story.

@DarkChipmunks989 I think Billy kissing Michael was more a way of saying, "Thank you for being my best friend, I'll miss you, sorry I can't love you back". Billy is clearly comfortable enough with his sexuality (not that he has much of one yet, though) to be friends with a boy who is gay and likes to try on his sister's dresses, so obviously he's okay with being affectionate toward Michael, who he knows loves him and is heartbroken that he's leaving. I think Billy was straight.

@whitebeam I don't think people are missing the point. I agree that Michael's homosexuality was only a subplot, but that doesn't mean that people can't be affected by it in some way. Sure, the main point of the movie is not that Michael was in love with Billy, but it was still very touching, and it certainly moved me. His love for him was so sweet and pure. He loved him for everything that he was, and that's what the video shows. There are other important parts: this video only portrays one.

Poor, poor Michael. One interesting fact: Jamie Bell was 13 when the movie was recorded, and the actor that played Michael was 17.
