I actually lost a cheap camcorder down that very shaft years ago. I was trying to lower it down with a light with fishing line. Was using the elevators as a pulley. The line got caught and snapped @ about 50 ft. It has a warm mist coming out of it during winter, and plants/moss grow around the opening.

The gases that might be there are usually from bat's donk - it creates methane- highly flamable stuff, and this type of mine isn't where you're gonna find that. Only cave mines come to mind.

This mine actually has gas warnings posted around the site. It doesn't say which, but it could also be to keep people out.
