Shoe hurled towards Omar Abdullah at Independence Day function

A suspended policeman on Sunday hurled a shoe towards the dais where Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was taking salute after unfurling the tricolour at the Independence Day function in Srinagar but an unfazed NC leader said it was a better way to protest then pelting stones.

Joining the Indian Union is a right, not a privileged. by their actions, the inhabitants of the valley have clearly indicated that they do not want to be part of india, so why bother forcing them to stay. The moderate kashmirirs are too afraid to speak out, and this must change if there is to be any future for kashmir in India. If kashmir leaves, their own tourist economy will be destroyed, their choice. Pak-occupied kashmir is already a slum, if they wanna join their compatriots, then let them!

... for the hindu pilgrims who came to the Amarnath shrine every year. Their arrival could have actually been capitalised by the kashmirirs as an economy booster, but instead, they chose to riot in the streets, destroying shops, offices and vehivcles.

During these protests, kashmirirs destroy their own cities, scare away tourists, force shops to close (sometimes even turning to violence if the shopkeepers refuse). How is this at all useful. India should hold a referendum in the valley (not jammu or ladhak) and if kashmiris chose to leave india, then so be it. The money india spends trying to appease kashmir after they destroy their own ecnomy can be much better spent somewhere more appriciative, like vidharva, telegana or the north-east.

The protests are mostly all stupid anyways, kashmir valley was actually pretty well off compared to most of india, it was a top tourist destination, even for foreign tourists. then in the 1980s, the separatist movement began, entirely religion based I might add (and possibly with the help of pak). Since then, kashmir has never been what it once was. The whole incident with the land transfer was stupid as well, it obviously was not a ploy to bring in hindu settlers the valley,onlytomakefacilities
