  • @anythingnew If I can feel it and if it helps me, why not believe? I get better and stronger *because* of my faith. It pushes me to my limits and then dares me to go a little further. I've done things with God's help that I never could've done without Him. Why deny myself the chance to grow? Given the facts, there's no real common sense reason to believe. But that's where common sense stops and faith starts. God has never and will never make sense- that's the beauty of spirituality. :)

  • @anythingnew See, I don't think faith is a bad thing. Without faith in goodness, all you tend to see is badness. Without the hope that there is a rhyme and reason to the universe, we have nothing. We might as well be monkeys, if that's the case. I disagree that "a parent and child are different." I think it's exactly the same. All it requires is a little faith. Even if God doesn't care, faith fosters hope, and hope makes everything seem reachable. It's the only way to truly live, in my opinion.

A parent and child are different. They see one another and they can interact with one another. The child sees the parent and knows they are in good hands. We can't say the same with 100% certainty about God. Faith is synonymous with death. Better to rely on your own skill than to depend on a God that you can't see or even know it "exists" or not.

I used to be a Christian; Protestant.

  • @anythingnew Most people who believe in God also believe that He has wisdom that humans cannot possess. By that understanding of God, it makes sense that we aren't always going to like every decision He makes. It's like a parent/child relationship. A three-year old doesn't understand why she can't eat ice cream for breakfast. If her parents don't give in, the child thinks they are being mean. How do you know that God doesn't have a bigger plan that we just don't see?

  • @anythingnew You seem really angry and hurt. You talk as if you're somehow immune to the religion that seems to have captivated everyone else. You think you are too intelligent to buy into religion, that no one who strives to think independantly could believe in such nonsense? You're not the only person to question God and why he allows pain. I have questioned God many times, I assure you. It's not a sign of strength or intelligence to reject God just because you don't understand Him.

There's no point in either suffering or compassion. God should just end it already. Is this some kind of game to him? Torment us and then supposedly comes back and saves us like he's a hero?

They continue to worship because that's all they know and that's the only thing they can call upon. It's been ingrained so deeply. Yes, we're all just God's play things.

  • @anythingnew Without suffering, there would be no compassion. Without compassion, the love we know wouldn't exist. Ask yourself why people who've gone through inconceivable suffering continue to worship. It's beyond all reasonable comprehension, yet it happens everyday. For me, I feel that I am only part of a much bigger whole. It helps me not to focus on my own suffering, but on the bigger picture. As God says in the Bible, "All things work together for good." I choose to live that philosophy.

  • @Jennafu832

People suffer and go through incomprehensible pain everyday and a God that won't do anything to alleviate it is not worthy of worship.

  • @anythingnew You don't know that's true. It's your certainty that makes me questionyour credibility. You know, I'm frequently accused of being ignorant and narrow-minded because I'm a believer in God, but I don't blindly follow Him as many suggest. I worship because I genuinely believe He is at my call. Because I'm also a Christian, I believe that Jesus became an intercessory for me so that I can approach God. The story of Christ is mysterious and beautiful, almost supernatural. It feels right.
