Lincoln Central Station Sunday Diversions

This was the scene on the morning of Sunday 9th November 2008 as all diesel-hauled trains were diverted off the East Coast Main Line.

Just to clarify; this was filmed in November 2008.

Electrics were not diverted as they would have to have been 'dragged' by a diesel loco and this would have caused delays.

Is this every Sunday or a one off?

Occasionally we get diversions through at weekends. If you look at the Lincoln Rail Gen website you will be kept more in the picture.

Of course had the high level avoiding line not been closed and ripped up all these trains could have avoided the High Street crossing. Never understood why the Doncaster/Lincoln/Peterborough line hasn't been upgraded so as to be able to take InterCity trains, giving Lincoln, an InterCity service and relieving some of the congestion on the ECML in one go.

How come it was just diesels being diverted? Were electric trains still running on the ECML?

That gets reallly annying when ur in town cos the train line runs right through the high street, and the level crossing goes down like 2 hours before the train comes!
