yes, wild at heart is dated and could be considered "corny" now.
but inland empire is whack... the video doesn't look good compared to film... and i can't get into a story that is random(subconscious).... there is no purpose to it, which Lynch admits... they are just all short cuts put together... you prolly like this movie because it appears esoteric.
the only case you can make for this movie is that it is "interesting", but NOT entertaining.
Inland Empire definately entertains me. The goal of film is ultimate to manipulate emotions, right? That's what Inland Empire does, and the fact that it does that entertains me. As far as the visual quality goes? I dunno. The typical Lynchian glowing and smoothness of 35mm film wouldn't have been right for this film at all. I think this film looks gorgeous as well, so it's a matter of opinion I guess. Twin Peaks is great also, but quite inconsistent. Fire Walk With me is a 5 star movie though!

Twin Peaks was the best he had ever done.
