Define what you mean by best lyrics. Does that mean the song has to have a message? Is that what makes it a great song? Bono writes songs with messages, but I think he's a talentless hack now. His days far behind, as are Dylans, but he has a most impressive track record behind him.
For me, I don't like an artist who has to have every song have a meaning or message. I listen to music to be entertained, not preached to. So, guidelines please, and I'll offer better lyrics.
why would you bring up amelia earhart? i dont recall her writing poetry, the fact is bob dylan IS the greatest song-writer, or atleast the greatest that i've heard if that suits you better. of course dylan cant be compared to Bach, different era, different music, different tastes. Btw, i find words so much more powerful than notes in a symphony.
p.s charles manson was somewhat unnecessary aswell, i didnt mean the where your going part in THAT sort of "carve your name into history way"
To use comparative terms such as "greatest" and "better" in reference to artists is ridiculous."Better" composer? Bach or Gershwin?"Better" song? 5th Symphony or Singin' In The Rain? Get my point ? Comparisons are odious.
And as for,"doesn't matter where you come from, just where your(sic)going"? Tell that to Charles Manson? Bishop James Pike? Amelia Earhart? Get it?
It doesnt matter where you come from, just where your going. Fact is Bob Dylan is the greatest songwriter on the earth today, if you disagree, show me better lyrics than that of Mr. Tambourine Man or Shelter from the Storm. It was his ingenious lyrics and part in the civil right and anti war movement that gave Dylan his fame and respect.
This video does a disservice to Lennon's trenchant lyrics and promotes an absurd fallacy.Fact is Dylan grew up a pampered, middle class, spoiled momma's boy.He rose to the top through a timely blend of talent,con-man hucksterism and media manipulation. Good old fashioned working class labor had little or nothing to do with his success.
why a tribute to bob with a lennon song ...and not even his version !........not like bob aint done heaps of fab songs is it ?
