  • A optical cable doesn't carry 7.1, it carries up to 6.1/ AKA DTS -ES discrete. But mainly Optical carries 5.1 dobly digital surround sound. there's to different cables u can youe for your dvd player. You can use a Optical digital cable which is usually labaled black, or you can you and Coxial digital cable. I perfer a coxial digital cable usually labeled orange, i perfer it because it has better surround sound effects. However if all u got is a optical digital cable use it

  • Component cables carry the Red/ Blue. ANd green signals, for video and red and white cables for audio. Component video cables carry two diffrenet signals, 1 is analog whis goes up to 480 P for standars dvds. the other is HD, the same cable can carry up to a 1080 I signal. While A.v composite video cables only carry a deciated signal of 480 Interlaced which is a bad or worse signal. Only use composite signal if u don't hae a s-video or a HDMI port.
