Oh, Atlantic Sea,
I love Ireland. I love the Irish people.
As I was living in Holland I watched the sea and knew Ireland is not far away.
The Sea is connecting our two countries. Me and my brothers.
Now I'm living in Germany and I'm missing the sea very much.. Tom.

One of my two great favorit Irish Folksinger " Mary Black ".
A beautiful face and wonderful song.
I love her voice. The song touched my heart.
I love most all the songs she's singing.

*************************************** SONG FOR IRELAND

Walking all the day, near tall towers
Where falcons build their nests
Siver winged they fly,
They know the call of freedom in their breasts
Saw black head against the sky
With twisted rocks that run down to the sea
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sunsets, asked for more
I stood by your atlantic sea
And sang a song for ireland

Talking all the day with true friends
Who try to make you stay
Telling jokes and news,
Singing songs to pass the night away
Watched the galway salmon run
Like silver dancing darting in the sun
Living on your western shore
Saw summer sunsets, asked for more
I stood by your atlantic sea
And sang a song for ireland

Drinking all the day in old pubs
Where fiddlers love to play
Someone touched the bow,
He played a reel
It seemed so fine and gay
Stood on dingle beach
And cast in wild foam we found atlantic bass
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sunsets asked for more
I stood by your atlantic sea
And sang a song for ireland

Dreaming in the night I saw a land
Where no man had to fight
Waking in your dawn
I saw you crying in the morning light
Lying where the falcons fly,
They twist and turn all in you e'er blue sky
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sunsets asked for more
I stood by your atlantic sea
And sang a song for ireland

  • Got to watch this again. Mary's voice is so wonderful!

Sorry friends when I didn't answered your comments. I guess I was a little bit tired for a while, but I love you all.

Love too to England and Ireland.

May both countries forever live in peace with eachother from now on.

  • one of the greatest voices and songs ever:)

  • Beautiful version

  • @MrHazer1987 Yes and I'm a good singer too, at least in the shower...well, at least I think so. Anyway I'm half Irish and no one can take that away from me, so I must be at least a half good singer. So there Mister!

  • Totally beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

  • Took a Scotsman to put in words the magic qualities of our little Island-when we're not moaning! First saw mary singing in 1979 unplugged to about 40 people in a small country pub and have loved her ever since! Want the words of that song on my tombstone-but not anytime soon!

  • i love it ..

  • I really feel this song ...

  • Just beautiful.

  • Fantastic voice! Where is she these days? I would love to see and hear her live.

  • I'm born and raised in Yorkshire, but my dad was from Co, Tipperary. My earliest memories of music are when. my Irish relative used to come over and visit us.My aunt Kathleen played piano and we'd all sing Traditional Irish folk song, well I was only knee high , so didn't know the lyrics, but listening to Irish folk songs brings back such very happy memories for me. Lovely singing Mary...

My best wishes and kind regards to Irish people all over the world...
