Registration is underway for the 2nd annual Boynton Beach Police Department Teen Police Academy, a week-long summer camp dedicated to increasing an understanding between our communitys youth and their local police.
The academy program will provide youth a hands-on opportunity to learn how the BBPD operates. Class topics will include: SWAT, K-9, defensive tactics training, police patrol techniques, dangers of traffic stops, firearm safety, ropes course, bike patrol, marine enforcement, safe internet usage, gang and drug awareness, crime scene procedures and field trips.
The academy will be held August 9-13. Classes will be held Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Participants must be between 14-16 years old and enrolled in school. Applicants must live in the City of Boynton Beach and/or suburban Boynton Beach. Parental consent is required. The cost of the program is $75 and includes a T-shirt, ball cap, sports bag and lunch.
Applications are now available at the BBPD, City Hall, City Library and online at www.BBPD.org. Registration must be received no later than June 15, 2010.
