Cryptocoryne spiralis is a really hardy aquarium plant that I just started keeping. I really like how hardy it is. It has tougher leaves than most crypts. Cryptocoryne spiralis didn't even melt when i put it in the tank. I love the big tall leafs it has on it. The roots on Cryptocoryne spiralis are awesome and bigger than more crypts I have seen. I am really liking this crypt and am eager to see how tall it gets and how far it can shoot off a runner from one end of the tank to another. Great Crypt hardy. recommended for beginners even! • hey,

how often do you do gravel cleaning?

cos all my plants are dying? even the thin val is dying in my tank?

all i have in my tank are angels, 1 silver shark, a few tetras, clown loaches and synodontis catifh. all are basically adult sizes. could they be eating them?

    what plant shudnt they eat?

  • @nuggetwetyou what do you have as your substrate?. plants like a dirty substrate

  • @Dustinsfishtanks its a river gravel substrate?

each grain is about 5mm across?

but theres some sand at the bottom

the surface has larger river stones?rocks

but thats just on the surface

  • @nuggetwetyou it is very possible that your fish are eating them. Perhaps the synodontis and the silver shark. (though I haven't kept them.) Those fish could also be uprooting them. Do you have any nutrients for the plants?

  • @Dustinsfishtanks no i dont?

but i thought the build up of faeces by fish etc in the tank would be enough?

in my tank i have plenty of drift wood and the bristlenose are constantly eating it and excreting it into the soil?

i do 1/3 water changes every month, though never did a gravel clean?

and to answer your question i havent added any extra nutrients for the plants (like iron or carbon)

  • @nuggetwetyou there needs to be something between the break down of feces and nutrients for your plants ala dirt. Fish poop doesn't equal dirt. just like you dont plant house plants in cat poop. ;)

  • Hey! My local pet stores don't sell Cryptocoyrne Spiralis specifically. Can you recommend a website for me to order them from?

  • Also, how long do roots start to grow? do they start producing oxygen once planted or do they have to get used to the new environment first? i really love your plants. believe me, i wanna buy from your site but the freight will prove to be more costly than the plants (i'm from the philippines, by the way). i also love your site. i even downloaded your videos for my reference. VERY HELPFUL. Tnx...

  • i wanna ask you something bout co2.i own a 20 gal tank planted with cabomba and two others unknown to me. I have 7 wagtail platy,1 betta,5 zebra danios,5 black molly,5 cory cats,2 albino red-tailed shark, and 1 black ghost knife fish (which i'm about to house in a much larger tank). I'm not sure if the co2 produced by these fishes is enough for the plants or do i have to make a homemade one. Are there any alternatives to have a good plant growth?
