Really? Really? 3 minutes of trash and you don't even drop one stinking explanation. If you really had that much footage of people not being able to define it then it just goes to show the demographic of users that buy Cisco.
For a layman's answer, cloud computing is when there are a loose confederation of systems provide applications and services over the Internet which used to be provided entirely by you or your IT department.
In a "cloud," they are provided by an accumulation of third party providers; the data housed externally, and the apps running on someone else's boxes.
e.g., YouTube is a consumer "cloud" service; they host the videos, so you don't have to maintain a server farm in your living room.
It is not a Good Thing when people cannot give a formal definition of a technical term, or when it turns into a joke. It means there are no set standards, no formal architectures, and no community consensus or buy-in.
Perhaps it's easier to describe the cloud services -- Software as a Service, Infrastructure as a Service and Platform as a Service. Of course, squirrels have played a key role in the development :-)
Anyway, I think the reason some of the brightest people on the planet had no real definition of cloud computing, is because it's a freakin buzzword, and we don't have time for the buzzwords our bosses use. We're too busy building and maintaining your networks and the Internet.
This was awesome!
I would be very interested in this being done again 2 years later and in the very same spot.
We've come a long way, baby!

This is hysterical! See I'm not the only one confused by this idea.
Still looking around for a simple explanation for the followers of my blog.
If you've got a good one, leave me a comment on my blog.

Wow. Things have changed since I left Cisco.
It is not a Good Thing when people cannot give a formal definition of a technical term, or when it turns into a joke. It means there are no set standards, no formal architectures, and no community consensus or buy-in.
