Sport Is Bad for Your Health: Why we Should Do Away with Sports
Cheerleading
+6People don't realize that cheerleading is a lot more than jumping up and down, yelling chants and annoying football player. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work just like any other sport. The fact is there's a big difference between competition and sideline cheerleading. Everday cheerleaders work hard to show off what they can do. I've been cheering competition since I was young and I've had some nasty falls. There's no way you can tell me that getting dropped from a basket or stunt isn't dangerous and painful. Whether others feel like it's a sport or not or worthy of being number 1 is irrelevant. Every cheerleader knows they work they're butts off to be the best.
+4cheerleading is so dangerous every flyer falls down on her head at least once I'm a flyer so I would know also this person on my team got the wind knocked out of here trust me cheerleading is dangerous plus conditioning is horrible all you do is jumping jacks and situps and run trust me CHEERLEADING IS NOT EASY
+2Varsity cheerleading, as in high school is a joke. All star cheerleading where you compete for an entire season is real cheerleading. I've watched girls fall from 20 feet in the air to a girl fracture her neck. People bail out on tumbling and break an arm to myself who needs surgery to repair the knee damage. Tell me cheerleading isn't a sport cause my team has the bruises and injuries to prove that we do whatever possible to catch our fliers and make sure they don't hit the ground.
V taught me that horses are incredibly dangerous. Do ya'll remember the episode of Full House when Michelle fell off a horse and lost her memory?
+5There are so many fatal riding accidents that it is near impossible to keep count. Working around on with any living, thinking animal immediately presents obvious risks. Jade South, Jessica Forsyth and Emma Jonathan are just some names of promising young riders who have lost their lives doing the thing they loved most in the last 3 years. The first two names were girls of 14 years.
+2The first time I was bucked off I fractured my arm, sprained my neck, pulled a muscle in my leg, and dislocated my knee. When my cousin was a toddler she walked behind a horse and got kicked so hard she flew ten feet, became cross-eyed and since she hit a fence, she became paralyzed from the neck down. So yeah, horseback riding is VERY dangerous on and off the horse...
Okay listen, let's back it up and think about the concept of lacrosse. In lacrosse you have a whole bunch of huge crazy guys running around with 6ft metal sticks trying to hit you in the stomach. You have no shin padding (which are very vulnerable), no neck padding. All the pads are as light as possible. Lacrosse also involves a large rubber ball being flung at 90 miles per hour at you. Another point: the reason lacrosse has less deaths and injuries is because it has less people playing. Cheerleading has a gazillion girls playing and it's all year round so you guys need to stop puting up all these hissy fits; I don't horseback riding but I definitely agree that's it's one of the most dangerous sports, propably more so than lacrosse. Another thing is that, surprisingly, nobodys recorded the amount of deaths strangely enough.
I was in gymnastics for 9 years and had many minor injuries, but also had some serious ones. Such a difficult sport, and super dangerous. When I was 14, I fractured my wrist so badly that they thought they were going to have to amputate it from my elbow down. Luckily, I managed to go through 3 emercency surgeries and come out of my 4 day hospital stay with my arm! I know a lady who had to have both knee caps replaced, due to all the damage from gymnastics over the years. I have weak wrists and knees now, but I'd do it all over again if I could! I recommend this sport for males and females. It teaches you discipline, balance, flexibility, coordination, team work, etc. It is demanding, but well worth it.
go on youtube and you can find a lot of soccer deaths mostly from cardiac arrest. its one of the saddest things ever
Brutal and so unnecessary. Incredible skaters acting like goons. They don't even have the self respect to stare down the team owners who abuse them constantly.
I played footaball in the NCAA division 1. its the most dangerous sport in the world. Find the stats, no other sport can boast such a consistant record of light to serious injury; not to mention playing with the fastest and strongest group of people in the world.

@H1UA1N20 actually i was a decathlete in college and a damned good sprinter...but i digress. sports are useless and i regret having paid more attention than was necessary. sport at most should be a minor hobby and should never be taken seriously. finishing a marathon or winning the Superbowl or the world cup means nothing to anyone accept for the money made by the investors...it does not reflect on the country. look how miserable Brazil is in spite of winning the 5 world cups, etc.

Ok, so it's not that sport is bad for you, it's the act of competing that complicates things. But you know, competition is life, whether you admit it or not.
You can't limit human potential. If you perosnally feel sports are bad, don't play them yourself. Some things that you pass for facts are nothing more than your opinions, and others might have opinions that differ from yours.

@gnostie as a great philosopher once said, even the greatest thinkers have only opinions. however, the fact is that sports cause injuries, it cripples people and it's a COLOSSAL waste of time...you can use that time for better things like exercising your mind...(i have no problem with sport as a leisure activity or to improve your health) but competitive sports are dangerous and nurture false illusions and worse like mob mentalities.

play 8 ball, snooker or chess those are sports that doesn't involve any injuries. Even poker perhaps that is now counted as sports.

@boredoflife227 agree, but let's not be picky. i mean the physical type sports. but even chess and other board games are a colossus waste of time.
