Anybody that has ever been to a Real Salt Lake game at Rio Tinto knows that the fans really make it a great experience.
RSL came back with an idea to match their billboard campaign that involved cutouts of fans in color with the background in black and white, and the theme being "Fan for Life".
So we ran with it. We shot fans at the final regular season game against Dallas, and then the home playoff game again verses Dallas. Really trying to catch the fun culture that is very unique to RSL. Then we really ran wild stylistically. I'm a huge fan of old Black and White dirty film, and pushed hard for it. Then Taylor got the awful, but great looking task of cutting out some fans frame by frame. Originally on the long shots there was going to be motion-tracked titles, but we decided to let it run without them... which I was torn on, but it still looked pretty good.
The music is a popular local band (Provo, Utah and Las Vegas, Nevada) called "Imagine Dragons" from their song "Cover Up". I actually got to work on another music video in an acoustic set with them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d712Th-4y0Q Great tune, and fun to cut too. This was another great one to work on, and a total blast. I love RSL.
