Live Webcast: Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass

Gastric Bypass: The weight-loss surgery of a southeast Iowa nurse will be viewed around the world when it is shown during an Internet webcast scheduled for January 2007. It will be the first Quad Cities webcast focusing on the procedure, a laparoscopic Roux--en-Y gastric bypass. The surgical webcast will originate from Operating Room 11 at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street and will premiere at 7:00 PM CST.

Matthew C. Christophersen, M.D., FACS, Medical Director of the Genesis Center for Bariatric Surgery and a partner in the Davenport Surgical Group, will perform the procedure. He'll be assisted by Michael Phelps, M.D., Davenport Surgical Group. Teresa Fraker, Manager, Genesis Center for Bariatric Surgery, will serve as moderator for the webcast. The patient is 47-year-old Tamara Shipman, a nurse supervisor for Great River Home Health Care and Hospice in West Burlington, Iowa.
