Our news channels are good at selective quoting and sensationalizing. DRDO said it is "aiming" to compete with Google Earth by offering better maps with more information and annual updates (unlike Google's 5 year updates). The aim is right. They just need time.

And, I agree with you on the fact that most people who complain about Indian services are the ones who work for MNCs. We really need more talent in Govt. services.

Street view is done by driving a Van, that is retro-fitted with a panoramic video capture device, around a city. I spotted one driving by my house here in Florida once. Indian Satellites have nothing to do with that.

What I'd love to see is the 3D mapping of infrastructure.

Buvan is still in BETA STAGES

acc. to site the min net speed is 256kbps

but in actual its 768 kbps something [that is standard not full throttle, don't even ask why - just look at the image resolutions its is scaling at]

It is specifically for india - better and higher resolution mapping, accurate data, timeline surfing, better data updates interval

Maybe in future they will launch a standalone client once the gui and the server logging and security work is complete

v r not claiming dat its better than google or somethingelse........ v just saying dat it has more capabilities like 3D......... n one more thing is google using international satellites....... but v r using our own satellites......... dats y it is not working wen it pulled down to street level........ but we will make it better in few days......... it is just to say dat INDIA has enough capability in space technology....... dats it!!!!
