way too eerily similar to a Christening. I couldn't handle it. Just throw a party or something.

@BloodTar There aren't any atheist leaders. Just atheists , so you won't catch any of them wearing ridiculous garb like you mention or having ceremonies either.
-
Not my cup of tea, but I understand why atheists want to do it. We're social creatures too, y'know!
-
Dad looks real happy about the whole thing, lol.
How depressing for those kids.

@BloodTar, what are you babbling on about?? I see it as a non pompous way to celebrate your child's birth in a formal way.....followed by a knees up.

I wonder when the atheist leaders (priests) will start wearing funny looking hats and robes and when they'll begin conducting baptisms into atheism and marriage ceromies?
-
Wow, so now atheism is becoming its own religion with themes, ceromonies and meeting places. Soon they'll have claims of an infallible leader, sacraments and long-held traditions. I wonder when the sex abuse scandals will emerge and when they'll be naming and presenting their "savior" to the world?

Well this kind of gives the game away Dickie boys there lol

this is a religious ceremony it doesnt matter that she says or a cult of atheist view . im an atheist to me this is contradicting one of the reasons you become an atheist . that is to get away from the ceremonial settings gatherings and live life by your own account not of a books or a set of rules not saying that we do not need rules with out them we would have chaos . but in all this is might i say inane of them
Some atheists like the social network this would provide. Others don't.
You said "i mean thats the whole point of atheism". That is incorrect. There is no real "point" to atheism other than the lack of belief in god(s).

I want a naming ceremony for my child since my fiance is atheist and I am agnostic. I think it would be very very beautiful.
