Commonly with Newman the narrator is the troubled one. A good example is "short people" which exposes a narrators irrational hatred - it's target isn't some group of little people. The same is true of this gem.

@lubermanl It's actually a dig at people who make assumptions about the people 'carrying breifcases' etc. It's actually the narrator who is the loser poking fun at 'Mr. Sheep'.

@lubermanl the narrator is the one with the problem. he is making assumptions about mr sheep.

I WISH RANDY NEWMAN AND NINA SAMONE WOULD HAVE COPULATED AND SPAWNED BILLIONS OF LITTLE PIANO PLAYING REVOLUTIONARIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr sheep doesn't think for himself he does what others expect him to do. He doesn't think for himself or try to do what he wants to do, so its no surprise he isn't happy. Even the 'girl on the side' is predictable. He has a family, because thats what people expected, so he hates them. The girl on the side is common amoung mr. sheeps. But if he doesn't have one, its because he isn't even good at being a sheep. What did you expect mr. sheep living by other people's standards?
