What is the point if humans just simply existed?
We have already come to the point where natural selection no longer playes a net role in the advancement of our race. Genetic engineering may become the only method to create better human beings. Forget height and eye color, what is important is intelligence, longevity, and maybe some hightened physical capabilities. Sure this technology will only be available to the rich at the beg. but just like every other tech. out there, the price will fall

@omgnotreally you assert "but to remove beauty/difference from this planet will be more devastating then the diseases that would be extinguished." i disagree. i think that we will always find things beautiful, i think that "beauty" is a subjective thing, and when the environment changes we will change with it. take for example digital photos, obviously these have not always existed, and yet tangerinespace has managed to show us some beautiful digital photos.

This "Designer Baby" idea is brilliant to a certain extent. Removing diseases and illnesses from the face of this world would be extraordinary, but to remove beauty/difference from this planet will be more devastating then the diseases that would be extinguished. Sure you can make babies better/stronger/smarter, but only to a certain extent. See this designer baby idea can only duplicate genes that were taken from another human which gives no room for evolution by limiting our gene pool.
