@viningsbee From a violinist (albeit one still in high school)- That's an E-flat dotted whole note with a trill to F-natural (that's what the little ♮ means- it's not a rest, it's an accidental marking for the note to be trilled to- it would normally be an F# because of the key signature). You'd play it without the fermata as six beats of trilling from Eb/D# to F♮. The fermata just allows the violinist or the conductor (probably the violinist in this case) to hold the note as long as they want.

@viningsbee 5 is just square 5 of the piece. and to do a fermata whole note trill you just trill that note for its value. Also a fermata, from what i've learned, is half of the value of the note added additionally, so in this case it'd be "6 beats". Though if one doesn't follow this rule, it is entirely up to the soloist since the conductor merely conducts the accompanied parts.

A question for violinists (from a percussionist, haha):
At 4:55, when she hits the section marked *5*, there's a fermata over a whole note over a rest over a trill. How is the violinist to read and play that?
Furthermore, is the length the fermata is "held" determined by the soloist or the conductor?

one of the great romantic themes . The instrument weeps in the reprise , Hahn plays with such well read emotion , her Lark ascending is for me the definitive version .
