This is the original backdrop video of Welcome to the Machine from 1975 with the studio audio removed and replaced with the fantastic sounding live performance from Oakland May 9th, 1977.
note - animation is by Gerald Scarfe who would later attain great success with Pink Floyd's The Wall. This video is on the bonus DVD that comes with Pink Floyd Live in Oakland 1977 3-disc 2CD/DVD set

Unfortunately no professionally filmed footage of PInk Floyd during their prime years of 1972-1977 has ever surfaced. While there is a debate among Pink Floyd enthusiasts about how much of the Dark Side Of The Moon may have been filmed in performance from the Brighton Dome in 1972 there is no debate as to the fact no professional video OR audio has ever surfaced from the Wish You Were Here and In The Flesh/Animals tours from 1975-1977.

CD Tracks: Disc 1: 1. Sheep 2. Pigs On The Wing (Part1) 3. Dogs 4. Pigs On The Wing (Part2) 5. Pigs (3 Different Ones) 6. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5) 7. Welcome To The Machine

  • they're playing this on VH1 Classic right now. its so cool but its so scary at the same time lol. was this video used for the backing video for when they played it live or was it an actual promo video?

  • @miiwii93 They used it as a backing video at the time and later is was used as the promotional video for your song so to answer your question, it's both

  • It is a crime against humanity that we don't have more video and audio documentation of this band. Thank you for posting as much as you have! You are a god among men.

  • Tommygun, greetings from Mexico, you are the man.

  • whats the anomation REALLY ABOUT ?

  • @BishounenNerd It's Roger paired with Gerald Scarfe. Who knows what they both were trying to convey with that? Or if they were trying to convey anything. LOL

  • @miiwii93 Yeah what he said. LOL The animation was created in 1974 or 75 for use behind the band during the Animals Tour in 1977. It was shown at many concerts afterwards as well.

  • krásný:-)

  • I now see where Tool got there inspiration.

  • Awesome

  • Tommygun

    Thank you for this video

  • Whenever I see that cylinder drip blood, it makes me think of a nuclear smokestack cracking. Was that intentional, or is it just what I see?

  • I love this video... It was animated by Gerald Scarfe, who went on to animate The Wall movie and clips for live performances. What an amazing talent he is...

  • THANK GOD!! AVANT-GRADE ART, LIKE Pink Floyd's WORKS, STILL REMAIN AMONG US...THX TOMMYGUN
