Perhaps change her mindset to collect things that are worth something. Then her hobby could continue.

At least her stuff is actual stuff. The newer episodes include literal trash and filth piled to the ceiling.

I have sympathy for her son but at the same time if someone can't help themselves, or won't even try, there's just no point.

people become so used to hoarding, it's hard to let go. usually something traumatic happens to a person to get them to that point! collecting things, to feel content.

@maicwand She does seem to know her stuff instead of just not throwing out trash like other hoarders.

i get so mad with people like this, they like to live like animals, i know they have a mind problem but, family has to help! this is something unaceptable!
People like this need to take it outside their home and run a second hand store or a perpetual garage sale. Then they could do what they love and not have it piled up in their living space. Many of them simply cannot bear to see useful things just thrown out in the trash (many are children of the Great Depression, etc.), but this is frugality run amok. Still, remember two things -- you cannot help people until you can understand them, and this lady is someone's mother, and they love her .
