Here, we have trees that sway and bend with the wind, leaves that fall from the trees, blow in the wind, and pile up on the ground or in corners. But this isnt just a pretty animation Its a fully interactive simulation. You can interact with aspects of it: the trees, the branches, the leaves, the wind, all of it. You can even break the trees, and interact with the individual branches, and its all created by the artist. You dont need to have a programmer piece together a bunch of rigid bodies and joints, and hook them up to some artist created meshes and textures, and program a bunch of forces vectors.
Weve been working very closely with IDV the SpeedTree people and, in fact, everything that you see here, including all the dynamics, is created using the SpeedTree authoring pipeline.

  • I just love noobs bitching on a tech demo. as if these exact parameters must be used ingame...

  • It really isn't textured is why, and besides, there are still limitations with today's GPU's. Really, Nvidia didn't even show shadows. So it has to be with the GPU limits, or just showing how things break with realtime physics. Also, the leaves have to be particles, because if it was from the tree, it would ruin frame rates as it would take a long time for the physics simulation to work.

  • hey man , im trying to learn this and i want to enable PhysX but when i enable it pressing "p" wont work)= the button for it is grey too what am i doing wrong? plz help!

  • Why do leaves fall from trees?

    Because they......leave...........I'll get my coat.

  • Cool

  • Kind of creepy actually.

  • Haha, I could believe either of those. But assuming they just messed up what trees are supposed to be like, its still a great thing... just a weird tree.

  • This is exaggerated for the purpose of a tech demo right? Because no matter how hard you run into a tree, it will never bend like that, and you'll be lucky to make it lose even a single leaf from the impact.

So either this is a deliberate exaggeration, or the developers spend so much time in front of their computers they forgot what a tree is.

  • Its just programmer art numbnuts.

  • They aren't really textured.
