Neville Fernando singing "Malagueña Salerosa"

Malagueña Salerosa is a traditional Mexican folk song written by Elpidio Ramírez, Roque Ramírez and Pedro Galindo, which has been covered by many performers.

The song is that of a man telling a woman (from Málaga) how beautiful she is, and how he would love to be her man, but that he understands her rejecting him for being too poor.

The song was made famous by Miguel Aceves Mejía. Traditionally, versions of the song feature vocal gymnastics by whoever sings them, particularly the stretching of vowels such as the "e" sound in the gentillic 'Malagueña' for as long as the singer can hold the note.

  • Great song! Reminds me of my trip to Albuquerque!!

  • where can i get the lyrics to this song?

  • Dear Aruna,

Thanks again for this wonderful rendition by Neville Aiya (as I called him). I knew that he learnt Spanish very diligently before he sang Spanish songs. After Los Caballeros some other SL groups started singing Spanish songs. They kill "Spanish" with lousy pronunciation. Neville never failed to come with his guitar to our Church feast at Kotugoda (Ja-ela). I am glad that you have these audio and video clips that you share on YouTube. Many thanks again.

    Cheers,

    Eric

  • I want to know this singer's life story. The internet can't help. Help!

  • The comment about Neville's pronounciation takes me down the memory lane to an article published about Neviile & the group on Sunday Oserver in 1969. It stated that Neville made sure that he pronounced the words correctly. Pity that we lost him young.

  • I am Srilankan , I speak fluent spanish, very nice job, pronunciation almost perfect, very little mistakes in the language.

Malaguena - this is about a girl from Malaga spain. Composed by a Mexican ,

    Buen trabajo.
