i tried surfing for the first time today and i stood up on my first go and i kicked ass for the rest of the day. I was just wondering what kinda board should i get (i would prefer the softer ones)

@ReganToonz you want a thick, long board with a rounded nose to start. Makes catching waves heaps easier and gives you more balance.

@lhapi Yes there is. Piha beach is close, and just north is amazing surf.

is surf better on east or west coast of nz?

Depends: there's more swell on the west coast and spots like Raglan are awesome. Parts of the East Coast can be fickle but amazing when it's on. Gissy is on the East coast and gets heaps of waves
