Il gruppo registra questo ultimo album nei leggendari studi Zanni, che
hanno visto nascere e crescere la storica band. Ma l'atmosfera non è più quella dei
primi tre album, "Cacofonica", "The dork side of the wig" e "The brown album".
La giovane band piena di talento è ora un gruppo di successo, ma scosso da liti
interne, vizi e dipendenze da droghe pesanti come il rafano. I pochi ammessi alle
registrazioni di Sgt. Benson's raccontano come negli studi il rafano corra a fiumi,
tanto che la produzione si vede costretta a comprare una betoniera per ottimizzare
la preparazione della potente droga per band e staff; verrà inoltre installato
all'interno degli studi un bancomat che dà le banconote già arrotolate a cannuccia.
I tre componenti storici della band litigheranno per tutta la lavorazione
sull'ordine delle canzoni e sui titoli. La fortunata "Chicken and Weasel" viene
incisa con i tre artisti feriti per una rissa tra loro. Curiosamente le ferite e i
colpi alla gola migliorano momentaneamente le prestazioni vocali.
Canadese81 e Almz69 discutono per la canzone "Wig will rock you" che verrà esclusa
dall'album, così come la malinconica ballata "Wig you were here", dedicata, come
tutte le canzoni del trio, a Richard Benson.
Il Fustigato dà a questo album un contributo discontinuo ma caratterizzante. E'
famosa la storia del suo abbandono degli studi in preda a allucinazioni da rafano.
Tornerà dopo una settimana, passata a cercare sè stesso in una comune in
Gennargentu. Non tornerà solo, ma con la sua nuova compagna, Ester: una pecora
sarda dedita all'erba. Secondo molti fan Ester sarà il colpo di grazia alla
fragile stabilità della band.
Questa breve parentesi sarda del Fustigato ispirerà la breve ma intensa bonus track
 Zu Benson.
Il risultato finale dei 2 mesi di lavorazione di "Sgt. Benson's Lonely Wig Qube Band"
è un'opera farneticante e allucinata, dove arriva a compimento la compenetrazione tra
la musa Richard Benson e il surrealismo trash.
La band promuoverà l'album con il "palco a un tiro di pollo" tour, e poi si
scioglierà tra le polemiche, rilanciate, amplificate e, a volte, anche create ad
arte dai giornali di tutto il mondo.
La rivista "Rolling stones" ha definito "Sgt. Benson's Lonely Wig Qube Band" come
"l'ultima esplosione di luce di una stella morente, un canto dell'anitra WC, un
ultimo inchino al pubblico prima di appendere la parucca al chiodo".
