About 10-15 minutes after preparing a wet mount of an elodea leaf, evaporation of some of the water makes it possible to see chloroplasts in motion inside of the cytoplasm. "Cytoplasmic streaming" is defined as the movement of the fluid substance (cytoplasm) within a plant or animal cell. This is the mechanism for the transport of nutrients

  • So if you are trying to evaporate some of the water off of the wet mount slide, would you put the cover slip on??? Would you leave it off???

  • You can leave the cover slip right on there. Because the edges of the cover slip aren't air tight, the water will evaporate for you. 15 minutes or so should be enough. Good luck. You'll do great.

  • hey dude, will you be kind and tell me where you got the music for this vid from? sounds awesome!

  • I'm not sure. It's one of the songs that was on the youtube audio swap page. This video originally had no audio, so I just picked and poked till I found something that fit in their collection.

  • sorry for the stupid question but are these green things which doesnt move inside the cell the chloroplasts?

  • Yes all the little green "things" are indeed Chloroplasts. Even the ones that weren't moving.

  • tell me why this happens though. The research that I have done has told me that motor proteins acting on actin-myosin interactions are the cause of the movement but is this true?

  • my teacher told that you need to put a drop of water in the alodea to see the chloroplast, why is that? why water allows you to see chloroplast?

  • does god photosynthesise?

  • @firedude22222 because the cytoplasm is moving :9

  • What magnification is this at?

  • why does the chloroplasts move?

  • Is the Green Chlorophyll?

  • MasyaA llah! :)

  • Yes, Sir Paul McCartney! (With a mistake like that I should be forever banned from posting comments.)

  • @bioteacher611 i think you mean paul mccartney :p
