(NEWS CENTER) -- Most people at the State House would probably agree that Maine needs tax reform. But what form that should take is another matter.
On this In the Arena were Sen. Joe Perry of Bangor, the senate chair of the taxation committee, and Sen. Richard Nass of Acton.
The focus is a new bill, LD 1088. It is described by backers as a revenue neutral way of stabilizing revenues, and dropping the overall tax burden on most Mainers.
It proposes to cut the top income tax rate from 8.5% to 6.5%.
I propose instead of cutting just the top rate by 2% which benefit the wealthy. You cut the entire income tax rate from the current 2% - 8.5% to 0% for the lowest income and 6.5% to all the highest.
This would be the ethical thing to do IMHO.
