  • is it true some highways are Heated?

  • Hello -

In Oregon we only have one state highway is heated. It's a small section of Interstate 84 between La Grande and Baker City near the Upper Perry Bridges. That particular section is very prone to ice, the heaters keep the ice from forming on the bridges.

  • Is the freeway also heated going down Ladd Canyon, too? How is the heating system controlled/turned on and off?

La Grande also has a heated sidewalk--the 8th St. Hill going up to Eastern Oregon University. There may be others I'm not aware of, like around hospitals, etc.

You people at ODOT do a super job keeping commerce safe and the roads plowed. You all are right up there with utility workers in the fact that when the weather gets tough, the tough get going.
