The first visible sign that a shuttle launch is nearing occurs when the orbiter moves from its hangar (OPF) to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) for attachment to the external fuel tank and twin solid rockets. Shuttle Discovery made that trip Wednesday in preparation for its mid-February blastoff to the International Space Station.
