This is my second version of The Hanging Tree from Suzanne Collins' book Mockingjay, of the Hunter Games Trilogy.

This is a more upbeat version of the song. I chose to make a faster version, because in the book it mentions that Katniss and Prim would sing it as children. Most children tend to sing songs that are more upbeat and catchy.

Are you, are you
coming to the tree
where they strung up a man they say murdered three
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree

Are you, are you
coming to the tree
Where the dead man called out for his love to flee
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree

Are you, are you
coming to the tree
Where I told you to run so we'd both be free
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree

Are you, are you
coming to the tree
Wear a necklace of rope side by side with me
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree

  • Thank you all for your wonderful compliments and feedback, I really appreciate it.

  • I guess this'll really fit the song since it's supposed to be sang by Katniss when she was still a little girl... which means the song should sound like a nursery rhyme... right? :P

  • @msbookworm1395 That's what I was going for in this version. I did another version of the song that is a little different and much slower to capture the mood of when it was sung in the book.

  • You have a fantastic voice, and are the only person i've seen online who has kept in mind that these should be thematically like old Appalachian hymns, everyone else I've seen has set them in more modern musical styles.

  • @Rhapsody0325 Thank you. I know what you mean. When I was reading the books, never did I imagine a modern song being sung.
